Video: This short film turns history fun with adventure, heroism

scrappy_03

Much of our work is silly or just pure entertainment, but we love when it also mixes with teaching and inspiration. Our summer project with Moondog Animation Studio was this educational short film for Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, which was commissioned to help teach the next generation about the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown.

One of the characters Long Winter helped model, rig, and animate is a revision of the Yorktown’s much-loved mascot, Scrappy. Scrappy was a real dog who lived on the aircraft carrier in 1943, providing companionship to those serving in World War II. This high adventure film follows Scrappy and his sidekick seagull, Stewart, during the challenges of wartime. Watch the full video from Moondog’s Vimeo page below!
